Print packet

One PDF for the whole job. Printed from the browser.

One stapled hand-off for every drop-off. Pitlane bundles the repair order, every linked digital inspection, and every linked estimate into a single browser-print sheet — one ⌘P, one PDF, the whole job.

RO + DVI + Estimate

$0

PDF library bill

One sheet, drop-off to pickup.

The packet leads with the RO header — shop, customer, vehicle, mileage, concern. Each linked inspection lands on its own page after that, then each linked estimate. One stapled hand-off, not three loose sheets that get separated on the counter.

  • RO header + line items + signature line
  • DVIs with Pass / Attention / Fail + photos
  • Estimates with line items + totals
  • Declined lines visible but excluded from the math

Browser-native, no PDF library.

Hit ⌘P and Chrome / Safari / Firefox handle the rest. No headless Chrome service, no per-document cost, no black-box PDF generator standing between you and the paper.

  • Letter-size with proper page breaks
  • Save-as-PDF or wired / wireless printer
  • Sticky chrome auto-hides at print time
  • Edit the disclaimer in any text editor

Ready when you need it, gone when you don't.

The print sheet doesn't auto-generate. It exists when you click Print, lives in a browser tab, and goes away when you close it. No archive bloat, no GDPR question of "where is the customer's PDF stored."

How it works.

01

Open any RO or inspection

From /service-records/[id] or /inspections/[id], the Print button sits in the page header alongside the status pill.

02

Click Print, the new tab loads the packet

RO on page one, each linked inspection on the pages after, each linked estimate after that. Sticky chrome up top with Back / Print buttons (auto-hidden in the print itself).

03

⌘P → Save as PDF, or send to printer

Browser handles the dialog. Letter size, half-inch margins, page breaks between sections. The sticky chrome disappears at print time so the paper is clean.

Questions about print packet.

Is the print packet a real PDF or an image?

It's HTML rendered to PDF by the browser's native print engine — same quality as printing any web page from Chrome. Selectable text, real fonts, no rasterized bitmaps. Save-as-PDF from the print dialog gives you a searchable PDF with proper page breaks.

Can I email the packet to the customer?

Save it as PDF from the browser print dialog, then attach it to an email. Pitlane doesn't auto-email the print packet — the canonical customer-facing artifact is the Service Summary Email Pitlane sends when the RO completes (which has the recap + review request built in). Print is for the shop's records, walk-in pickups, and fleet/insurance billing.

Does the packet include declined lines?

Yes — visibly struck through, with a (declined) tag, and excluded from the total. The audit trail shows what you recommended; the math reflects what the customer authorized.

What if no inspection or estimate is linked to the RO?

Print just shows the RO. The combined packet is built from whatever's linked. You can link an existing inspection or estimate from the RO detail page (Linked inspections / Linked estimates panels in the right rail), or print just the standalone inspection from /print/inspection/[id].

Can I customize the print layout — disclaimer, logo, terms?

The default layout uses your shop name and address from settings, with a 30-day storage disclaimer above the signature line. The page is plain HTML in the codebase; if you self-host or want a custom edit, the code is at app/print/ro/[id]/page.tsx. We're considering adding a per-shop logo and terms-text setting; vote it up in /feedback if you'd use it.
