Scan a VIN with your phone camera
Point your phone at the VIN barcode in the door jamb and Pitlane reads the 17 characters for you, then decodes the year, make, and model. No typing a VIN by hand.
A VIN is 17 characters and one wrong digit points you at the wrong parts. Scanning skips the typing.
- Open the scanner. Tap Scan in the bottom bar on your phone, or open it from the command palette. It's the same scan sheet everywhere in the app.
- Allow the camera the first time you use it.
- Line up the VIN barcode. It's usually on the sticker in the driver's door jamb, or the plate at the base of the windshield. Hold steady until it reads.
- Pitlane fills the VIN and decodes the car. Year, make, and model come back from the VIN, so you're not typing those either.
From there, attach the vehicle to a customer or drop it straight onto a new repair order. Adding a walk-up at the same time? Do it inline without leaving the job.
